Why Homebuyers Are Choosing Huntersville
Brookline Homes • August 28, 2025

When you picture suburban living, what do you see? Maybe it’s a quiet place to raise a family, easy access to shopping and restaurants, or amenities that enrich everyday life.

If that’s what you had in mind, you’re picturing Huntersville, North Carolina.

As one of Charlotte's fastest-growing suburbs, Huntersville has a lot to offer — and the housing market has noticed. Here’s what you can look forward to when moving to Huntersville.

Enjoy Convenience with Room to Relax

Huntersville is at the center of a rapidly growing region. Located on the north side of Mecklenburg County, it is the only major suburb in the area that can tout close proximity to Uptown Charlotte and Lake Norman, which results in a pleasant blend of city life and nature.

Positioned north of where I-485 and I-77 intersect, Huntersville residents enjoy the simplicity of moving in and around Charlotte. You can take the beltway, cut on through, or reach Uptown via 1-77.

When it comes to air travel, Huntersville strikes a balance. Both the Charlotte Douglas Airport and Concord Padgett Airport are accessible but not so close that airport traffic interferes with life.

Pro tip: If you plan on commuting to Uptown regularly, sign up for NCQuickPass and take full advantage of the express lanes on I-77. Time is money.

Take in a Nature Lover’s Haven

Living in Huntersville fosters a special feeling of being tucked away from the crowded city center. The town sits at the southern tip of Lake Norman, the largest lake in North Carolina. This lake contains more than 500 miles of coastline and features access to all the following:

  • Fishing
  • Jet skiing
  • Sailing
  • Kayaking
  • Waterfront restaurants

The watershed also includes several nature preserves adjacent to where Lake Norman feeds into Mountain Island Lake. These include the
Quest at Latta Nature Preserve, which contains a 6,000-foot aquarium, and the Carolina Raptor Center.

Huntersville stands out among other suburbs south of Charlotte that are more landlocked, and its position on the north side of the city makes it that much easier to escape to the Appalachian Mountains for a quick getaway.

Pro tip:
To preserve the natural beauty of the area, be mindful of site selection. There are watershed restrictions that limit how much you can build on a lot and the impervious space allowed on a property. These restrictions can be easier to navigate within a subdivision than as an individual building a custom home.

Live It Up with Local Amenities and Restaurants

Beyond the waterfront, there’s even more to discover in Huntersville, whether you’re a parent planning family activities or a retiree looking to revel in your golden years.

For the little scientist in your family, there’s
Discovery Place Kids, a nearby museum sure to spark curiosity. For ye olde adventures, check out the Carolina Renaissance Festival hosted every October and November. The whole family will find something to love here between jousting, costumes, and royalty.

Foodies in Huntersville have many local eateries to choose from. If you like Cuban food, Huntersville has you covered with
Azucar, and Kung Foo Noodle is bound to satisfy your craving for Asian fusion. Both restaurants are highly recommended by locals.

Shopping is right within striking distance thanks to
Northlake Mall just inside the beltway and the showstopping Concord Mills Mall, a short drive to the east. For even more shopping, pop over to Prosperity Village, located close to Brookline’s Edgewood Preserve community. And golf is a staple in Huntersville with three courses in town: the private NorthStone Country Club and the semi-private Skybrook Golf Club and Birkdale Golf Course.

Pro tip:  Looking to spend a night on the town? Birkdale Village has a movie theater, shops, and fantastic dining options, including Midwood Smokehouse, the Cheesecake Factory, and Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar.
